Coquelicot Limoux (Limoux poppy) : the floral essence of Limoux wines

Exemplary Vineyards
The Merlot, Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Franc varieties which make up the "Coquelicot Limoux" « Limoux Poppy » red come from vines over 20 years old situated around Limoux in an area benefitting from exceptional climatic conditions :

• to the West under the oceanic influence, the parcels of Merlot and Cabernet are planted on clay limestone hillsides which bring elegance to the wine.

• To the North-East, under the more Mediterranean influence, the finer clay soils allow the Syrah and Malbec to blossom under the perfect conditions to contribute fruit and power.

• To the South in the Upper Aude Valley, the proximity to the Pyrenees ensures a longer maturation for each of the varieties which in turn brings freshness and finesse to the wine.

These unique conditions combined with the vineyard cultivation under our « Protect the Planet» Charter, strict pruning, green harvesting (according to the vintage), low yields, enable us to obtain the best grapes to produce this rich wine.

A « top of the range » vinification
All our grapes are harvested by hand, then transported in small containers, passed through the sorting table and are finally de-stemmed. Each variety is vinified separately at a controlled temperature between 29 and 30° C. A cold maceration before fermentation for the Syrah and Malbec ; a 30 day maceration for the Cabernet Franc and Merlot
with frequent pump-overs. Our wines are blended then matured for 8-9 months in oak to obtain a suppleness and richness.

Coquelicot Limoux : more than just a name !
The poppy is a wild flower which gives an indicator to the quality and health of the soil. It only grows in pollution-free soils and is one of the first flowers to appear in areas left fallow. Found all around our vineyards in Limoux, it is testament to the daily commitment of our winegrowers to protect the biodiversity and the environment. Concrete proof of the effectiveness of our « Protect the Planet » Charter !
