André RECH, Henri VERGER and Jean-Louis CUIGUILLERE, producers for Anne de Joyeuse for more than thirty years, shape and adapt their vineyards each year to produce the best possible results at the critical moment of harvest.
“La Garenne”, “Nabrouze” and “Camps Robert” for the Merlot, “La Lapinière”, “Le Mattet Bas” and “Moulin à Vent” for the Malbec and ” Pountarou” for the Syrah.
These seven plots are located in the western, ‘océanique’ part of our vineyard, between 100 and 300m in altitude. They are characterised by their geological situation, at the top of slopes with soils which are predominantly composed of molasses (colluvions of gravel, clay and sand).
The 2010 vintage
The summer was very hot during July, followed by a mild period in August which ripened grapes in a slow, regular manner to a perfect balance for harvesting the Syrah, Merlot and Malbec varieties between the end of September and mid-October.
Cultivated with low yields (30 hl/ha) and harvested by hand, each variety is vinified separately.
Merlot grapes are vinified traditionally, juices being pumped over the must the second day of fermentation. Tanks are then emptied and refilled over the skins several times.
Malbec and Syrah grapes undergo a cold pre-fermentary maceration to preserve their specific fruit aromas.
Wines are tasted each day to enable us to regulate the length of the vatting period and to allow us to decide the best time to draw the wines off their lees.
Once the fermentations are finished, the varieties are blended for ageing in 225 litre barrels during a year.
The wine is then matured in bottles for 12 months.
Tasting notes :
The red AOP Limoux « RENCONTRE » should be tasted between 14 and 16 °C.
The wine will open up if it is decanted an hour before tasting.
Then, you will discover its deep garnet-red colour and its blackcurrant and violet scents on the nose.
Notes of rich, ripe berry fruit are sustained by a velvety structure and soft tannins which line the palate.
Suggestions for associations with food
This red AOP Limoux « RENCONTRE » will enchant you with a braised leg of lamb and artichoke purée with a touch of Coriander, or try it with a tajine-style honey-seasoned duck breast and fine grain semolina with spiced dried prunes.
It might well surprise you, also, with a barbecue beef brochette with Espelette pimento and hand mashed creamed potatoes.
Tempt yourself with a « RENCONTRE » to accompany a fine pastry chocolate tart with cinnamon and ginger, topped with a cherry sorbet.
